On behalf of the Generation Power team, I would like to thank everyone who helped our recruitment efforts. Applications for youth and employer participants closed on July 2nd, 2021. Without your help, we would not have been able to reach so many Indigenous youth. Since the application deadline, we have been reviewing applications and interviewing candidates. We have met so many outstanding Indigenous leaders from across the country, excited to be a part of the Generation Power Program. The diversity of youth applicants is striking. Many youths are already working within their communities and local governments; others work in academia and policy. Some are just beginning their journey and are excited to apply their lived experiences to a new career pathway. This cohort is already leading change to a more equitable and sustainable future. We are so excited to bring together such a talented group of individuals. There has been such a high level of interest from all over the country for a program in its first year. We are excited for the program’s first year and the many more to come. We have also had lots of interest from energy sector employers looking to support Indigenous youth. We have included an infographic showing where the employer (blue) and youth (yellow) candidates have applied. Acceptance letters to youth applicants are being sent out. In the coming weeks, youth will be matched with clean energy employers to participate in internship opportunities.
On August 30th, we will welcome all the successful youth into the Generation Power Program and introduce them to the greater ICE community. There will be an online orientation where youth will have the opportunity to connect and learn more about the year ahead. Youth will also have the chance to ask questions to Indigenous mentors who are already working in the clean energy sector. By the end of orientation week, we will have officially welcomed the first cohort of Generation Power!
