In 1992, the Ouje-Bougoumou Cree Nation of Northern Quebec installed a biomass district heating system to heat commercial buildings and residential homes in their village. The system has been in operation ever since. In 2019 the plant is under going a modernization to replace equipment that is at the end of its life cycle. The new containerized biomass boiler is the largest in Canada.See the article below for more details.
