My name is Vanessa, and I'm the Marketing and Communications Assistant at The Centre for Urban Energy (CUE) and a fourth year journalism student at Ryerson University. I've been directed to this amazing community thanks to ICE staff, and I'm really looking forward to the coming discussions and interactions from this network that this post may hopefully incite.
I'm hoping to write a feature story for CUE highlighting the ways in which Indigenous communities are impacting the clean energy industry and furthering clean energy initiatives, particularly those in remote and rural areas in Ontario (but definitely still wanting to hear stories from outside of the province and these confines). I'm really looking to highlight the achievements Indigenous peoples have made in clean energy projects in the country, the struggles and challenges that may have been faced along the way, and what lies next in the future.
Overall, I'm hoping to learn a lot from Indigenous communities and have your voices inform my article. Writing an accurate and respectful story that does justice to Indigenous peoples and communities is really important to me, and I want to do my utmost best to make sure this story turns out right. This cannot be done without collaboration and consultation from Indigenous communities themselves, and I would love to arrange some dates and times to speak with leaders and participants in this area directly.
My summer work contract at Ryerson is ending soon, so while this post signifies the beginning of outreach, there may be some interviews that won't be able to happen until September. Please let me know if this can work for your schedule if you decide to reach out!
Thanks for your time and consideration, and I really hope to hear from you all.
